Hammering the junk starter is fine, but I'd be worried about taking a piece of the cast aluminum housing off with it.
Yes, A Huge Concern for Sure, Any other Ideas? Removing the cast Aluminum Housing is Not going to prevent some breakage of it, is It? If it breaks a piece coming off, it still needs to Come Off, I don't think You can Rebuild a starter on the car, but Maybe someone out there can!
What is the other method to remove a stuck Defective Starter? You have to figure the cost to remove the housing and remove the starter without damaging the Housing!
That is the only other Alternative, and the Aluminum housing may get Damaged Anyway when the starter is removed.
I think that's why it hasn't been repaired Yet!
Starter failed and needs to be replaced but it's completely fused to the transmission. Spraying, tapping, banging won't budge it. Anyone else ever dealt with this??
I've been told that CorrosionX and Kroil oil work well for dissolving the corrosion between 2 dissimilar metals, like the steel in the starter and the Aluminum in the housing.
They are both Penetrating solvents and they take awhile to work, but it may be worth a try.
