I have currently installed three dashcams on 2nd gen RXs now (my 08 Japan-made an 07 Canadian-made 350 and an 06 400h) and can confirm the pinout is the same! The battery / constant wires work great for parking mode!
EDIT: Do not try to fit a Viofo A229 on the driver side! You will have contact with the rearview mirror
Hi Matt,
That looks like an interesting way to mount a rear camera. How did you do it?
It's super low profile and out of the way. This was a Viofo A229 I installed on a RX400h. I used my same method of hardwiring the camera to the pins in the upper console / dome light. I used three wires as this camera has parking mode. Ran the rear wires out to the back, through the rubber harness boot in the trunk and then behind the trim. You'll need a wire fishing tool to get it through the boot and some silicone spray as it's a very tight squeeze!
G'day MattRX, I'll be hooking up an A229 front and rear set to my RX in the near future. Do you still have your pictures from post #10 in this thread? The attachments seem to be broken
As mentioned prior I cannot stress enough how useful car dash cams are. I installed one maybe 5 years ago within weeks I videos a guy slamming into a brand new Tesla was able to give the Tesla driver the video for her insurance (and likely attorney). It has saved me twice now with people claiming I was "at fault". Mine ran under $100. Simple to wire in, hides behind the rear view mirror. Matt did a fine job of showing the mounting... I will say that mounting the front camera (I only have a front cam in mine) was very easy, mounting the rear view camera for my head unit (same wiring) was not so fun going through the roof, pillars, and snaking through the rubber snake in the rear hatch took me, patience, and an electricians fish. There is no way I'd own a car that I do not install a front camera in... when I sold my last car I removed the camera and reinstalled it into my RX

This is one of the projects on my list. For the fishing tool, I found a 3mm one, would this be good?
