Anyone know if there are major issues with the sticky dash on these year models? From what I've read on the 5th gen ES forum, there have been MANY problems over there. Hopefully it's not nearly as bad on these vehicles from 2007-2009. Anxious to find out some information.
Also, can you get ventilated seats on this gen RX?
Dashboard cracks and stickiness are common. You can find several threads on it, mostly dealing with the warranty.
These RX's have heated seats as an option, but the leather isn't perforated/ventilated.
I discovered that earlier this year, Lexus stopped fixing dashboards on the recalled vehicles. If I get an RX and at some point it develops problems, can a person take out the dash, buy an aftermarket one and do it themselves?
Similarly, how much would a shop charge to do this? Like $1,000?

Yeah, it can be done.....

Thats a chunk to swapout a dash....The oem dashboards are really shoddy...The best way to go is either a dash cover which goes over the oem one or a dash matt.....I went w/ a dash mat, even thou there wasn't any cracks, it just looked really bad....http://covercraft.com is what I went with........

I'd gladly pay that kind of money for a replacement dash. I would be keeping the vehicle for many years and tons of mileage, so that's a cost that, spread out over time, isn't a huge deal. The cracks and issues would bother me so I'd want it replaced.
I clicked the link and didn't get anything except the home page. Does a dash cover or dash mat look weird and tacky?
I just got the covercraft dash mat, ... no cracks i just got it to keep the heat down from the sun, i got the the black one, ..the wife dont like it lol.. you can get the dash skin its around $495... i will post picture Dash mat
I'm sure it looks a lot better in person but I'd just rather shell out the money for a new dash.
I'd sure put the difference (new dash vs a dashmat) toward other parts.....
How's your RX holding up? Any major issues over the time you've had it?
Typical p/s pump & alternator replaced. A great cheap brake up is swapping out the rotors/pads & a pr of reman calipers w/ the gen 3's....Two piston calipers vs singles, bigger pad surface as well as a slightly bigger diameter rods....The difffernce for the pads/rotors is pretty much a wash, just need a pr of reman calipers for a '10-'15 rx...Great time to replace the oem brake hoses w/ new ones (I went w/ SS ones from TR for about $90. for all 4 hoses), as well as flush the old brake fluid out. You'll possibly need a radiator, w/p later on down the road. Swap out the trans fluid & filter as well as the transfer case & rear diff oil...I went w/ a gallon of Maxlife, Wix trans filter & 2 qtrs of Royal Purple diff fluid for both transfer case & rear diff....btw pulling the trans pan gives you a chance to clean the two magnets in the pan...I'd also flush the p/s fluid & install a inline p/s fluid filter near the p/s fluid reservoir.......Miles down the road you'll want to swap out the plugs= I'd also do the bank 1 coils as well.....That'll get you started. There are a few other things that I've done that possibly give you some ideas......

Okay, I'd probably be picking up a front drive model so I won't have to worry about differential fluid. I'd also want to do the spark plugs since the car is going to be at least 12 years old. Just to be safe. Thanks for the tips. Also what gas mileage are you getting?
I get around 24 hwy 2wd ...65 mph no more than 70... town driving sucks.. 111,800 miles never changed plugs yet.... only front upper air fuel sensor/ trans and p/s flush/rack boot.... sort out all the rattles....

The prices are pretty much the same for either, Your up here in Wa.so really best to go w/ a awd.....Go w the irdiuum plugs & I'd also change out the bank one coils & also check for any oil around the plugs, if so you'll want to change out the cam cover gasket as well as the plug seals.....
So far my dash is holding up good so I think it was replaced but I kinda like that dark gray carpet dash cover in the post above.
No cracking problems w/ mine as well.......The oem dash pad is really shoddy/cruddy (doesn't look good or feel all that good) compared to a lot of other vehicles, hence why I installed a http://covercraft.com dash mat.......And this is a Lexus vehicle......easy enough to fix thou.

I didn't realize how thin and fragile the vinyl was until I pulled the glovebox to do some work and threw it in the back and put it in the trunk and it make a cut in it.
It didn't completely penetrate the vinly it's barely hanging together and not noticable but it looks like if I press on it I might get a tear.
Got any pics of your cover so we can see it in action??
