Default Folding Back Seats Flat

Hello... This is my first post... Thank you for having me. I have been fortunate enough to find a one owner 2009 very low mileage RX350 AWD in pristine condition.
Very happy to be here! And I'm getting 27 mpg hwy! Very cool!

Question:
So the owner's manual say's to move the back seats forward before you lay them down flat.
I don't notice any difference (in flatness) if they are moved forward or not...
Why do they say this? Am I harming the seats somehow if I don't do this?

Kinda sounds like they want you to move the rear seats forward, so you can lower the front seatback flat, where the head rest would lay on the backseat cushion.....How are you getting 27mpg? Must be downhill for awhile?

They automatically move forward when you lay them down. They do not lay totally flat.
