Rear emergency brake seized
Hi everyone,
I need some advice. I purchased a used RX 330 with 141,000 October 2019. I later found out that the rear emergence brake is seized-up.
a local mechanic quoted me over $900 to fix. Can anyone give me some information on where to start?
I would like to try and fix it myself, ie: replace, Shoes/pads/rotor and all new hardware.
Thank you,
David

You gotta open it up and see what you are dealing with
Likely need new cables, but may as well get new shoes too, and hardware installation kit, all available after market at reasonable cost.
But then look at the internal surface of the rotor, used for the parking brake, maybe get new rotors, and pads too.

Hi Tomr51
I have a 2004 Lexus RX 330 with sized rear e-brake. I want to do my own brake repair. I am going to start with the front brakes first.
Do you have any recommendation on where is the best place to purchase after market parts. ie: O'reilys, Autozone.
Thanks,
David

I'd start w/ the rear first as thats the main problem....I'd jump on line & see who has what brands, yea you could just checkout both O'reilly's/Autozone, to see if the have what you need in stock.....But if you could wait a little bit for shipping, http://rockauto.com offers more brands & beats the store prices......btw, if your replacing the front calipers, I'd go w/ the gen 3 RX ('10-'15) calipers/pads/rotors, which bolt right up & adds additional braking power.....
Can you elaborate a bit on the front caliper compatibility please. 3rd gen front calipers bolt up to 2nd gen RX350.
Do you keep the same caliper carriers or do they need to be from a gen 3 also?

Felix, I should have checked first.
A 2007, 2nd gen, and 2012, 3rd gen, have different part numbers for the rotors, so do rotors need to change too if you swap to later calipers?
I'm interested to know what is compatible, and what makes the 3rd generation caliper better if it's the only component that gets changed.
