I have a 2007 RX 350. Last year, it started to have an issue of not being able to turn the key once inserted. We jiggled out of it a few times and eventually it stopped working completely. I towed it to the dealer and they said the cylinder was dirty. After cleaning it worked fine.
Last week we drove the car to lake Tahoe, and after returning to our rented house from the ski resort, I could not turn the key again. Inserting the key was easy. It just refused to turn. After a few tries (taking-out-and-reinserting-and-turning) it worked. Next morning it worked fine. I am wondering if this is the original problem, or it has something to do with the coldness. But after returning home which is a warmer place I also ran into it once although the second try worked.
I know there have been a few threads about this, but I am wondering what people think the problem of my car is. Did my cylinder get dirty again? Should I replace it?
Some people have put in lithium grease on the key cylinder. Or if you have a spare key perhaps it will not do the same. Keys get worn out but I do not think being worn out is a primary cause of a non-start. The dealer owes you a re-work since whatever they did, it did not work.
