Cost to paint
Does anyone have any experience with repainting? I have a 2007 RX400H that was stolen and recovered, but the thieves spray painted half the car in black. Insurance is offering me $4500 if I keep the car. Can I repaint the whole car with a 3-step pearl white paint job for that price? If I accept the total loss offer, they'll give me $9000, but then I have to buy a new car, which I would prefer not to do. Thanks for any advice. -Chip

Second, I have to say that at first blush, $4.5k is a LOT towards a paint job with no body work involved. Obviously, the best thing to do is call a body shop, but you have in your favor that its not a color change, so that's always less than if you wanted to spray the jambs and other hidden surfaces.
Let us know what the body shop says, please!

You certainly cannot get a repaint of the entire vehicle for $4,500 even CLOSE to the level Lexus OEM paint quality is at.
I agree with the idea of taking it to a high end detailer to have them attempt to save the OEM paint.
