Default Heavy power steering RX400H

Hi,

I have a RX400H from 2006 and i have an problem with my power steering that come and goes.
For days it can behave normal and then suddenly it is very hard to turn the steering wheel, especially when turning right.
The problem can last for 15 minutes or for 2 days. In the latest month this occur more often.
I have searched with an OBD2 diagnostic tool specially for Lexus cars but do not get any faults on the EMPS system even when the problem occurs.
Knowing this I assume that the ECU for the power steering is ok and that the fuses on the main relay is ok.
My theory is then that the problem should be mechanical and then focus on the power steering rack.
There is one problem with this theory since the problem is not constant - Normally a mechanical problem does not come and go.....
Any advice is highly appreciated.

The racks failing was rather common on this model.

Regular power steering fluid changes/flushes would be good.

To date, I've done one flush, two changes and one new pump. It still makes the odd noise, but it works and cheaper than the 700$ rack, plus the same in labor...

OP has a HYBRID RX.

Wouldn't hurt to have the Torque Sensors re-calibrate and see if it fixes it.

Default Same issue how did you resolve it

I have the P/S Warning light, Check Hybrid System, Check VSC, Check AWD, BREAK, ABS, TRAC LIGHT. I am experiencing intermittent Power Steering loss I had 2006 rx400h 215,000 miles on the dot I disconnect the battery and turn on and off ignition 4 times and it works but it is not good when I’m driving and lose power steering do you think this is the relay or the computer or something different entirely
