Default Leak in Trunk?

When opening my trunk today, I saw a fair amount of water come out of the hole I circled in the picture below. Has anyone else had this issue before? We did have a crazy rain storm recently but even so, I wouldn’t expect water to drain out of the plastic area... FYI it’s a 2006 RX400h:

My first guess would be the base of the window wiper. Next would be the bolts for the license plate.

You would have to take the door panel off of the hatch and get inside the car while someone hoses the car down.

I forgot what is probably the most likely source of the leak - the tail lights.

Funny you say that, I noticed the taillight on that same side looks to have some sort of crack. I'm going to take a picture and post it here tomorrow... If that is indeed the culprit, is it as easy as replacing the inner taillight? Should I work on drying the inside out? Thanks for the help!

In order to change the tailight, you need to remove the door panel. Mop out any water that may be in there and then leave to panel off fo an extra day, maybe 2, so the insides will dry out.

The tail light assembly will probably be very hard to remove after you take the nuts off of it. This is because of the caulking that is put on the backside of the tail light assembly.to seal it from leaking.Even if you re-use the old tail light, you need to re-seal it.

This is a great sealer to use - Morimoto RetroRubber Butyl Sealant

I have to seal my outer tail light and I am going to use this - Permatex Black Rubber Sealant # 80338

Whatever you use, it has to be thick enough to not run, otherwise it will run out and not seal anything. DO NOT use anything labeled adhesive as you will probably never get the tail light off again.
