It has the oil cooler on it. For some reason those engines are more pricey. Found one with 80k for $1700
and found one with out the oil cooler for $1000 with 65k miles on it. I was told I could use the none oil cooled one. I'd just have to
swap oil pans..
$1500 is an insanely good deal. Bet it will run and last many more hundred of thousands of miles once the gasket issue is fixed.

Also - this serves as a good reminder to not take you Lexus for service at those roadside $20 oil and lube chains.

I would recommend finding out if anything is even broken, and if so what, before moving forward. I certainly wouldnt just go off what jiffy lube told her. A friend of mine had an SC430. I forget how he lost his coolant, but anyways, his wife drove it until it overheated and shut down. He towed the car home, filled the coolant back up, and the car ran fine.

Default DESLUDGE Question

Hi Everyone, hoping someone savvy can help me figuring it out what to do.

My car is a 2007 RX350 with 50k Miles, runs nice and no engine lights. I took it to the dealer to do regular service and they gave me a quote for $1,500 for Desludge. They gave me a list of things they would replace: valve oil control, valve pcv, gasket valve cover, element kit oil, etc.

My neighborhood mechanic (this guy does know about engines) told me there is no need to do all that, and told me he can flush it clean with oil for $80.

What would you do? - or shall I buy all the items in the list from the dealer and have him do it (dealer labor cost itself is $700, the other $800 are parts).

Thank you in advance for your help!!

phhht, change the oil and filter and keep enjoying your reliable, low maintenance car. Maybe you could flush the brake fluid after 11 years, but on my 2008, it didn't look all that bad at 9 years when I did it, nor did the coolant.

Why did they suggest all that other work, is there a noticeable problem?

All that suggested service for a Lexus with 50k miles? There is no way that is needed or even recommended for a well maintained low mileage Lexus.

I wouldn't even bother buying the parts to have the neighbor do it. Simply flush the engine with oil and follow the recommended oil, coolant, and brake fluid replacement interval.
