Default radiator replacement in 2007 rx 400 h lexus

I have been told by my mechanic that the radiator in my Lexus rx 400 h will need to be replaced in about 6000 miles when it reaches 100,000 miles. He said it could be done at the same time as he does the scheduled 100,000 mile service. Total cost around $2,400 US dollars. Is likely to be the case? Thanks to all who answered my last question. Thanks JOWE

Your price seems very high. The new radiator is $80 US. Many people here have used the Denso and find it to be identical to the Lexus part. Should be 2-3 hours labor.

Do what why? Because he said so and wants to make some $$? This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard. He's some sort of clairvoyant that knows exactly in how many miles radiator has to be replaced? Besides, rad is hundred bucks quality one and not that hard to replace.

Mines was done at around 120K miles after it started leaking at a private mechanics for around $950. The price also included a coolant exchange on the hybrid component as well!

at least in the US.. it should be about $300 to $500 at Indy shops.. $600-$900 at the dealership.

When I had the radiator replacement - my indy charged me about $500-600 (including the radiator) in addition to doing some A/C work. No way a radiator replacement should cost $2400, it takes a few hours to do and the radiator itself should cost $100-150. Have you checked the radiator to see if it actually needs to be replaced? Do you see a pink colored residue covering the radiator?

It does seem pricey. IMO "it does not NEED to be replaced", just smart to do it if you are planning a coolant change.

What is included in the 100k service?
Here is what i think is in the fair range for this car at a local mechanic not that mechanics buys from their supplier and it cost them more than what you can find online. -Timing belt/ waterpump ($900-1500 -high because it is lots of work to get to), spark plug?(+$100 on top of timing belt work).
Coolant change (150-200), radiator (+200-300) Transmission fluid change ($200-300)

If this is what is intended it could be reason the quote is such. Don't cuss at your mechanic. If it does not include this work then go to town on him or her.

FYI I can get a water pump kit for $120 my mechanic can only get it at $350 for the same brand. That is at his cost. He can not guaranty work if I supply part.

And if you are Very handy and do this yourself, this work will cost you ~$400 for parts and OEM fluids... and lots of hours.

If it is the entire 100k miles service maybe, but it is still high. If you drive more Ham 100 miles away on trips, I would say it is okay to do as preventative maintenance. When it leaks, it’s not usually a fast leak and you can probably get away with carrying 2 jugs of coolant/water in your car. It will hold you over until it gets replaced. Radiator is not a wear item, but it is probably the only common thing that I see go out on this car. It is not uncommon for radiator to go out after 100k -200k miles.

Default Aftermarket models cheap, but dont hold up

Have had to replace 2 aftermarket radiators for leaking 2 yrs in. Still, cheaper than factory, even if having to replace 3 or 4 in lifetime of car.

It was $900 at the dealer a few years ago. I can't believe its up to $2400 today. Unless this was also for the 100k mile service.
