Default 2004 RX330 Intermittent Starting Issues

Hi All,

I bought an 04 RX330 the other day with 112k miles. An issue started last night, and it was that if the car was turned off for a short period of time 5-10 min, upon re-starting it would just crank over but not fire up. Happens for about 3 key turns then on the 4th it fires. This happened to me last night and twice today on my lunch break.

Note: Car has an aftermarket key with no built in fob. (In case this sounds like an anti-theft issue)

Other wise the car seems to start/drive normal. I tried searching but couldnt find anything that aligns directly with my issue. Any ideas?

Only one key? If so, may be worthwhile to get another to rule out the immobilizer.

If the key is not an issue, you would need to check the fuel pressure regulator.

If the car starts fine when cold, like in the morning, but gives you a hard time starting when hot, I would look at that as being an issue.

A fuel pressure test would be required to confirm, and I believe the fuel pressure regulator is located in the tank with the fuel pump.

I have a feeling it may be key/immobilizer related so my locksmith has a replacement master key on order.

The one I was given with the vehicle is also only a valet key.
