Oil Light
My wife’s 2007 RX 350’s oil light came on this morning and will not go off. It has had a new oil change (by me) and has been fine since done. I checked dipstick which is perfect. Inspected all vacuum lines and they look ok. Any thought to cause (oil sensor maybe). I am assuming the reset sequence is same as maintenance required alert am I correct?
I added a little oil (these dipsticks are so hard to read with new oil as I did a change a few weeks ago). I always underfil slightly when changing and drive a few weeks then top off to 6.5 Quarts. Sometimes when I add the last bit of oil the light will come on after driving a few miles. Me being the knucklehead I am I just forgot to reset the light and it’s fine now. Could be sending unit about to go out and I will get my multimeter and ac circuit tester out later today and report back.
Well, likely it's simply corroded contact on oil sensor but, "a little added oil" should not cause low oil pressure light. Which actually can't be reset as it's crucial engine safety warning, so I am not sure what exactly is that you reset. You can reset maintenance minder.
It's about a quart of oil between the dipstick marks, and, even at the lower Add mark, it still does not trip low pressure light.
I used to take sand paper to dipstick and roughen it some. It shows oil better though I do agree - oil line somehow always sits at the angle up, like a long lip on the dipstick and is indeed hard to judge. Best is let it sit overnight on level then check.

Ahh, not to forget. Low pressure light, under condition of working oil pump (how can two gears NOT work?) points towards bad connecting rod bearins as they are crucial in oil pressure build up and maintaining through engine operation.
Was engine ever run low on oil or does it cough out blue smoke when floored?

i'm ukrkoz, don't confuse the oil light with maintenance reset. Results could be disastrous. i dpn't know where it is but i don't see how a corroded sensor would be the cause either. To me the sensor is fixed and the wire to it is at worst tethered and so very little play. That plus the fact i doubt you came near the wire leads me to think it might be something else.
Turns out my wife left gas cap loose. I cleaned and relubed the rubber grommet and tightened with multiple clicks. Read codes with my scanner and cleared. Problem solved. Hilarious!
My bad again this thread should have read engine light. I am getting of the age where my cheese is sliding off my cracker. Common problem for it’s illuminating is loose gas cap. Sorry for confusion guys. Today is bodywork on fromt bumpers and lights as my wife hit the back of the garage a little hard.
