My fiance hit a curb in her '06 RX330 and broke the splash shield in half. Mechanics want over $500 for the part but I can find it online for $50 plus shipping and it should be an easy fix. However, our mechanic said the splash shield isn't necessary at all unless off-roading and suggested we don't replace it. That kindof caught me off guard, wouldn't this protect against water from puddles from entering the engine bay and rusting out the components? What advice would you all give?

 

Not necessary but I'd fix it. I like my car as complete as possible.
