Default Can headlight moisture burn out an HID bulb?

Hi guys,
I recently bought an '08 RX350 from my boss and have been fixing things here and there.

I used it friday and both headlights were working, however we have had very heavy rains lately and my driver's side headlight has a lot of moisture inside (i'm aware that i need to seal them) and sunday night I noticed the HID low beam is not working. I have not done any troubleshooting yet like swapping bulbs from side to side, etc. but I was wondering if someone knew if the moisture can kill the HID bulb.

Those bulbs are about 9 years old, and they most likely need replacement anyway, but i'm hoping it is not the ballast so i don't have to take down the bumper, etc.

any insights??

Moisture can absolutely take out both a both and ballast. But I really doubt the ballast is shot, those Denso's can take a beating, so your bulb maybe dead from age.

I would start with replacing the bulbs, as they needed to be replaced a long time ago. If a new bulb doesn't fix the issue, then you likely have a fried ballast.

Yes, moisture can definitely burn out a HID bulb. It probably has nothing to do with the age of the bulbs as it is the fact that the moisture probably caused an electrical short. I'd consider getting the headlight assembly replaced - because if you simply replace the HID bulb and moisture gets - it will cause another electrical short.

You can try swapping sides for the HID bulbs to see if the problem follows the bulb or not. Also try letting the ballast and bulb connectors dry out a bit and firing up again. An alternative option to replacing a headlight assembly due to moisture is resealing it, you could buy new sealant such as Morimoto Retrorubber.
