Cold Start-up rattling sound help
Hey guys,
I have a 2006 Lexus RX330 with 95k. I bought it about 3 years ago with 79k on it. Only things ive done to it was changed a rear wheel bearing, brake pads/rotors, tires and oil changes.
Everytime i start my car (only from a cold start), theres a rattling sound and i cannot figure out what its coming from. I brought it to a mechanic but he wanted me to leave my car over night so he can figure out what hes coming from when he starts the car next morning. I honestly didnt want to do that because i need my car to get around places. He suggest that he can be a belt problem or engine pulley?
Like i said, its only from a cold start. After driving it for about 5-10minutes, the sound goes away.
I upload a video via vimeo of me driving and you can hear the sound. Can you guys check it out? Thank You

I concur, regardless of whatever else you do the timing belt should be changed now. Waterpump is iffy, if there are no signs of leakage you might be able to wait although time (not mileage) would make me uncomfortable with the original. That said, It could be an idler pulley or a tensioner making the noise. Either you or someone is goiing to have to be there at cold startup listening under the hood to pinpoint the noise otherwise you'll end up throwing parts at it.

2nd the motion on the TB, add spark plugs while you are there.

Make sure you try running 91 Octane, and just try some Lucas Oil "Complete Engine Treatment" first. It's cheap and can't hurt. I also 2nd the timing belt replacement. It really should be replaced now. Your engine is living on borrowed time.
