Talking Tires - Need Suggestions Please

My wife's RX needs a set of shoes. I'm looking for the best all around tire for the money. Good wet/dry traction overall wear and price. Trying to stay around the $150ea price range. Thanks!

Kev

I am very happy with the Continential tires I put on my RX. Assume your going with 235/55/R18s. These are nice riding tires, smooth and quiet. Good wet and dry traction. I also heard the Bridgestone tires are a good tire. Good value/performance. Stay away from Pirelli Pzeros. T

Even under one brand there are array of tires to choose from. In my case I and my family is good with either Michelin or Continental, living in North of border in cold
winter weather. We keep 2 sets of tires/rims for each vehicle. They are all AWD type but in winter, winter tires are big help. I'd rather drive regular car with snow tires
in winter than AWD with all season or summer tire. Name of the game is stopping safely not how fast you can go.

We have 40K on our Continentals and the tread looks like it will go at least another 20K. Still quiet and smooth. I purchased 235/60-18s so my speedo would be a little more accurate.
It is spot on now with this size tire.

Been happy with the Bridgestone Alenza. I would get another set of the same when it needs it which is in about 6 months. Get it when Costco has a $70 off rebate, well worth it.

The dealer I bought mine from installed Sumitomo Touring LS Vs on it before I bought it. Grip seems good, overall, but they don't like cold weather. They get hard, and fast, making for a rough ride until they warm up for a few minutes. I won't be buying them again when the time comes.

That seems to be a common complaint with some reviewers on TireRack.com.

V speed rated tires feel hard to me anyhow. For cornering and spirited driving, that's a good thing. Our RX is more of a family hauler, highway machine and since I live up in the high country in Colorado near the continental divide, I'm going with Michelin Defender LTX MS in the stock 235/55/18. I have an appointment next Saturday at my nearest Lexus dealer in Denver. I've read on and on about tires and I know that the Alenza pluses feel good and last a long time. If I lived in a bit warmer climate i would choose them. But with all the rock, sand, salt, snow, and ice here, my dealer is recommending and having good feedback with the Defender tire so I'm going to give them a shot. I'll post again with first impressions after they're on.

Bought 4 Michelin Defender tires for my 2009 RX-350AWD.....replaced Michelin Latitude...car rides and handles 10 times better.... Michelin tires do go on sale from time to time.

Sick. Thanks ajay. Mine go on next Saturday morning and I cant wait to get the ***** Goodyears off. They're worn and poorly balanced. I had wheelshake at 70 pretty bad and thought I might need to do axles like Alchemist and others have. Thankfully after I rotated my tires front to back, shake is gone, but they still break free with just the chance of snow in the forecast.

Are you just trying to get best deal or Amongst you want to have(same class tires), are you looking for best deal? Anyone ever check the UTQG tire ratings?

I've been trying to find good patterns in UTQG ratings for my applications but it can be tricky. I know I don't like B temp tires. They feel mushy to me, like driving around at 36psi and still feels like the tire's low on air. Price didn't really matter to me, I mean I'm not going to go into Lexus and ask for those 270$ Toyos they have, but they have the tire I want (Defender LTX MS) at 185$, which is reasonable. It's UTQG is 800 A A, which I think will fit what I need (something to drive alot of highway miles on rough roads and will last awhile). I understand they will feel harder at 800 treadware, but I'm ready for that and they have a nice depth at 12/32's.
