Default Gearbox stuck

Have any of you run into an issue like this...

I drove my Lexus RX400h to the dealer for an 150tkm service (thats about 9300 miles) and apart from the standard service stuff i had one other request.
I asked them to adjust the gear shifter (if you can call it that, when it has no gears) as it always needed a little nudge before it would go to Drive.
Well, they then apparently tried to "soften it up" by removing the lever "restrictror" and moving it from one edge to the other. This resulted in it getting totally stuck.
No they tell me that the only option is to buy a new gearbox altogether at 4400€.

They state, that it is stuck at the gearbox side not the lever side and that "something" has broken inside the transmission. Apparently Lexus do not sell spare parts or even seals to the gearbox so the only option being buying a new or "new" used one.

Anyone heard of anything like this? Or better yet, a remedy for it...

Wow, that doesn't sound good at all. Probably cheaper just to swap out a new or used tranny, vs fixing the old one. I know most mechanics here, tranny mechanics charge $1200 just to open it.

That's what I did
Found a used tranny in UK and i'm having it shipped to Finland now.
I went to return the courtesy car to the dealership yesterday and had a chance to check the problem. The problem is not that it would be stuck in P but rather quite the opposite. You cannot get it to P. This causes that you cannot start (or get it in ready mode). the tranny seems to be okay otherwise.
They will change it to the used one, but I will open the current one just out of curiosity to see what is causing a behavior like this.
Upon further inspection it seems that the "mode change" axle going into the tranny is slightly bent which might of happen when they change the engine on this car some 40000km ago.

I will let you know the root cause if I ever discover one

I ride motorcycles, and a couple of buddies are tranny guys, day job. For me, if there is something wrong with the transmission, even after I swapped it out, I would swap it out again... curious though to see what is wrong.
