Default New 2007 RX400H Owner

Just picked this up last week. Wife and I decided to sell her 350Z and we're selling our 92 SC400. Kids are gone, I still have my 95 Tacoma X-cab, but we wanted something comfortable for more than 2 passengers and with enough room for our 3rd child, our 3 year old German Shepherd who insists she goes wherever I/we go.

After a 2 month long search, we found our new RX!
One previous owner.
They maintained it regularly at the same Lex dealer and we went to the dealer and got a printout of the records.
Has all the bells and whistles, including the Navigation System, self-leveling HID headlights(with headlight washers)
It's in perfect condition inside and out - does have some paint chipped in the very front part of the hood, but we're taking care of that.
Timing belt , plugs changed about 30K miles ago
Lithium Battery and the Inverter replaced at 140K miles.

Here's the scary part - it has 175,000 miles. However, my wife got it out the door including TT&L for $7500.

I usually wouldn't get a super-high mileage car like this, but to me since it's a Toyota/Lex, it should last quite a while since it's been excellently maintained and it's obvious they took great care of it and it appears, based on the paint and everything else, to have been garage kept.

We started out looking at RX300's, then moved on to X5's. My brother talked me out of the X5. He said he wanted badly to get one a few years ago, but just couldn't stomach the horrible maintenance reputation that has, so he got a '15 RX450H and loves it. My wife and I moved back to looking at RX300's , but also started looking at Sequoias, then she found this one the day after it was listed.

This will be the 3rd Lexus we've owned. We've had a 93 GS-300 (I've posted a few how-to's here in that section including replacing the window regulator) and of course the 92 SC400, which will be hard to sell since we've had that thing for about 9 years and it's been rock-solid, except for the 'grounding' issue, window regulator, and of course the dreaded door-handle plastic clip breaking.

Nice rig and nice price. Interesting that they had to replace the Inverter at 140K. I thought that issue had been addressed in the 06 and updated for 07. I've heard Lexus charges close to 10 grand to install a new Inverter... By Lithium pack, do you mean the Hybrid pack? I don't believe it is Lithium. Looks like a real peach otherwise. We have a silver/black 07 currently with 93K on it. It is our second Lexus, first one being a 2001 RX300 AWD. So far my wife is averaging around 27.5 with it. Very respectable.

Thanks!
My bad - forget what I said about the battery. I'm reading the receipt and it says "repl inverter assm with converter - awd rx400h safety recall DLF . Also it looks like they replaced the "intelligent power module"

Both of the above were under warranty.

I'm going to change the oil/filter this weekend and plan on doing the fluid changes on the transmission, diffs , and the Xfer case but will see how much the dealer charges just to see..

I just wish the factory service manuals weren't so dang expensive - they look to be close to $800 or so...

Just FYI, there is no transfer case on the 400h. The rear axle is operated strictly by an electric motor with a big orange cable attached to it. There is not mechanical connection from the transaxle to the rear end.

lol yea, I've been reading up on it and watching the energy screen for a week and knew about the rear electric motor, but I guess I had a rough day at work and forgot about it when I posted. I guess I ought to start being really concerned with my sanity when I start asking about muffler bearings or piston return springs!

thanks

Nice rig....looks identical to ours. We are at 167k now and I am stepping in more and more on the repairs/maintenance/service.
If you can do the work, it can save you a LOT! The car is still our "go to", reliable road trip vehicle and it's been great!

Fluid changes are pretty easy.

We originally bought an 4.4 X5 but driving home that night, lights started to flicker, engine sputtered, rear seat heater quit. All within 24 hrs.....needless to say, we returned it. Definitely a fun car to drive but got scared on the potential repair cost. Maybe another time.
