Default Camshaft/crankshaft sensor problems

New to the fourm...sorry is this has been answered before.

Wife was driving her 2005 rx330 home the other day. All of a sudden it died. She got it pulled over and called me. These are the symptoms

When you turn the key all lights, radio etc work just fine. It will act like it wants to crank but never turns over. Battery is in good shape and was just recently serviced. She forgot to mention that the maintanence required light had came on the day before.

I had an old jeep that acted like this once and the problem was either the camshaft or crankshaft sensor had gone bad. I figured I would start with those before trying other things. However I have no clue where these two sensors are located.

I am very mechinacally inclined. I do all the work on my truck and jeep. I have never done much on this Lexus but would rather do it myself instead of having to take it to a shop.

Can anyone help me on the locations of these sensors?? Diagrams or pictures would be awesome! Also any suggestions as to what it could be would be great!

Thanks!

Default could it be a busted key?

My 2005 RX 330 had the same symptoms but it was in the garage. I had just replaced the battery although I thought it might have drained overnight. I then remember my sister's old MGB that behaved similarly when I took it out for a ride. There was a gas cut-off switch as an anti-theft device on that car and it died within 1/2 mile. Anyway, so I looked at the manual and it said that it wouldn't turn if there was something wrong with the key and to try a different key . and sure enough there had been a crack in the first key I used, the second key turned the engine just fine. I don't know if this might help a week or so after your problem. Hope it was solved.
