RX400h brake issue
Recently bought a 2006 RX400h - my first Lexus. Occasionally when braking it feels like the electric motors "won't release" for a second or two and the car lurches. Eventually they do and then braking feels normal. But while this is happening it feels like I have to really step on the brakes to get it to stop. I don't know if I am describing this well but does it sound familiar to anyone else? Is this normal?

This is worth a read https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...s-problem.html
ALso, the 400h brakes are electric and a few people have had to replace the braking module. How clean does the fluid look? It should be changed every 4 years.

Braking Issue
Hi Rickkkoss,
I have experienced the same issue with breaking. We bought ours in October of 2016. Love the vehicle but this is disturbing. Especially since I had an accident yesterday because of the problem (no personal bodily injuries, thankfully, just really smashed up vehicle). I have found other forums with people who have had the same issue and some have been in accidents too.
The problem is that it does not happen consistently so I think it will be hard to get the problem fixed and it is very hard . I have been in contact with the local Lexus dealership and they are checking into it. I am hoping they can find the source of the problem so we can have it corrected. I will post more when and if I get any answers.
Take care,
Emily

I am not sure what toyota/lexus recommend for brake fluid change, time interval, but to me, brake fluid is cheap insurance. I change my brake fluid every year, and I use ATE super blue, aka ATE 200. I will bleed the front calipers every 6 months to get fresh fluid in there. You only need a couple of tools to do a 1 man brake fluid change.
I would start with change out the brake fluid (should be a pale yellow), take the front wheels off and have a look at the pads and rotors. you can clean the rotors (some times you can get uneven build up of the brake pad material and that can cause uneven pedal feeling), with brake cleaner and a paper towel. If that all looks good, then it's bigger more expensive stuff that's going wrong.
