RX400h reversing bulb
#2
Same problem wit the RX350. The problem is one of design, where most of the light is blocked by the shield inside the reflector. (How could anyone come up with such a daft design?) Some have replaced with CREE LEDs, but this requires a (very slight) cutting down of the lamp holder. I tried, and was unconvinced with the result as most of the light was blocked by the shield. So I just replaced the bulb with the most powerful wattage replacement bulb (Sylvania) that I could find. I reasoned that the use of Reverse is for so short a period that the risk of bulb heat/melting reflector is minimal. So far - three years - it is working. Visibility is a little better, just enough for my purposes and I've had no problem of overheating. If I remember correctly, the wattage of the substituted bulb is just less than double the original. Did I mention that it was a daft design to start with?

Some have used CREE LEDs, but need some modification on the bulb holder. But fairly successful in getting more lumens on reverse.

I bought bright, expensive leds and it helped a little bit. But after several months of still having a hard time seeing while backing I took out the light assembly by removing the three bolts and took a look at how I could modify these to be able to see better. Well there is a small screw holding the piece of the reverse light assembly where the bulb goes in. I removed that screw and wiggled that small piece out...It has helped a lot more with the bright leds I have. Give it a shot and see if you like the results. If not, you can put it back on without any problem. Hope this helps someone!
