Goodbye to our RX
Considering selling 2004 RX FWD @87K miles later this year after the dealer replaces the cracked dashboard sometime this summer. My wife will probably get either the 2015 or 2016 RX.
It has all the bells and whstles except Navi unit and heated seat and exterior/interior doesn't look at bad all and all the maintenance is up to date.
Many websites (i.e. edmunds. autotrader, kbb, nada) say I should be looking at around $8K for trade in and somewhere between $9K and $10K for private party at clean condition. I've been peeking at difference websites to see how much these are sold for to find that they vary anywhere between $8K to $13K for private party for a same exact year and mileage.
I think I'll visit CarMax to get a more realistic idea of what the trade in would be soon, but what do you think it's the most reasonable price for a car like this? For private party, I am thinking somewhere between $9K and $10K or should i take my chance and try $11K?
Thanks.

CarMax will lowball him, after all they would need to make a substantial profit. My son recently sold his 2004 RX, private party, 135K miles, loaded, ML sound, etc. California Bay Area. $10,800.

I will tell you CarMax will offer more than dealership, however after I received their (CarMax) quote which was $1500 more than dealership I sold it myself privately and received another $750 over the CarMax price...That my friends buys lots of dinner outs....I know it is a hassle, and you have to be careful. Only accept cash from buyer at their bank or institution for both safety and honesty. I miss my old RX300, but love my CarMax Rx400h which was priced $6000 cheaper than the dealership after trying to get a deal for 6 weeks from the dealership. I know I probably paid a little more from CarMax, but they treated me very well, and was a very easy transaction.
