Default Dud Key?

Bought a new key off of ebay and while I have successfully registered it to my car, I cannot start it. The new key unlocks / locks the doors and I have tried the programming trick (the one with the doors closed / opened, key inserted back and forth) but I can't get this new key top start the car. I can turn and I can hear the starter kicking over but the immobiliser is basically ignoring the key and can't turn over. Put in my normal key and it works fine.

Thoughts? Dud key?

Are you programing the new key yourself? If so maybe this thread will help:

Programming the remote and programming the immobilizer are two separate things. From what I understand, the only way to program the immobilizer is to have the dealership do it.

In the thread I linked above CL member "b1ackhawk" sucessfully used techstream to program the immobilizer and so did member "Eliaquim".

I will have a look with my techstream tonight and see if I can program the immobilizer for the new key. Thanks for the tip. Will post back results.

I checked the immobilizer options on the Techstream and found the section for registering the new key. Tried it 4 or 5 times and on all occasions I received an "error" with communication between the key and the ECU. Tried clearing codes etc. etc. but this new key just will not start the car.

CL member Eliaquim from South Africa had to register the key with techstream as a U.S. dealership for it to work. I see you are in Australia. Maybe that is the problem?

Tried all countries that are selectable in techstream and no go. Still get the error. Have sent an email to the ebay seller asking for another transponder to see if this is the fault.

Found that the seller I bought the key from had sent me the wrong chip. They sent a replacement chip and finally the new key can start the car.
