I have the upgraded 18" chrome 5 spoke wheels on my 05 RX330. Discount Tire tells me the reason why my tires are losing air is because of chrome peel. The RX330 wheels are hard to find on ebay or craigslist, but i dont want to pay the dealership for these wheels. Will the 2010-2014 RX350 wheels fit my car? The bolt pattern and offset are the same, but some places are telling it wont fit because of the brake caliber. Has anyone here ran into this or have any suggestions?
I think the first rule of Tire sales/ service is "Blame the wheels for any air loss problem, and it can't be repaired". I had an air loss problem with one of my Highlander wheels. All I heard from Merchant's is how the tire was OK. Finally, I insisted they dismount the tire, put sealant where the tire meets the rim and remount and balance. Sure enough, the tire is holding air much better.
I had some Oldsmobile wheels that were considerably rusted in the bead. The tire dealer told me to wire brush the bead and I did. Once reasonably smooth, we mounted the tires without problems. I recommend you consider wire brushing the bead area. Who cares if the bead isn't chromed, you can't see it anyway.
BTW, I'll bet Discount TIre was ready to sell you some new wheels. They tried that with me when I owned a Jeep. I'm sure if you clean up the bead area the tires will hold air if the dealer uses sealant when the mount the tires.
RX350 wheels will fit. I have a set in my garage now. I test fit them a year or so ago. I am still waiting on my tires to wear out. The chrome issue is hitting quite a few people now.
Have you checked the wheel weights? Mine were attached to the side of the rim of the 330 and leaking air ever so slightly. Once the weights were moved, no more leaks.
