Thanks so much. Removal is complete.
Now to get the new one put back in.
BTW - the nut behind the alternator is a 12mm.
Thanks again for all the help - it's finally out. What a pain. I assume there is no special trick to putting the new one in?
Now I have to remember where all the nutz and boltz go

OK, almost all back together. The replacement was much easier than the removal
One necessary trick - using tape on the socket to keep the nut/bolt from falling out. Worked great in a number of places especially that hidden nut for the thermostat housing.
But, I broke the radiator filler neck - I have a new one but would like a little guidance on yanking the old one out. I have the locking clip of the old one off, but its really tight and I am concerned that I will break something expensive...
Any pointers will be much appreciated.
[done] As it turns out, the o-ring gets very attached to the parts. Carefull prying on both side with screw drivers and it came off a little then just poped off. It took quite of bit of leverage to get it off.
