Default Dead alternator. Anybody else?

So my alternator died i'd say about a month ago today. My car was towed to lexus around the same time to see why the car was dying. After a few hours I got a call back saying it was just my battery and they recharged it for me, great. Well about a week later I decided to replace the battery that way I knew the problem wouldn't surface again. Anyways, yesterday the wifey is driving the car and calls me and says the car is acting up again, so im upset at that point and call lexus, I drop the car off today about an hour later they say its possibly a bad batterey so I go back to the place where I purchased it and they say its a bad alternator, WTF! I go home P@@Sed off and start to test the car myself. As I tested the car with a multimeter I surmised it was the alternator. Brought it back to lexus same day and spoke with the tech myself and said they simply checked the battery and not the alternator. An hour later they told me it in fact was the alternator. Woohoo! Anyways $656.00 for alternator and $200.00 for labor.
Im deciding whether to do it myself, anybody know how?

Heres a reman alternator off ebay for $175 shipped.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-GS350-3-5L-2007-2009-ALTERNATOR-/260968784331?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc2f3a1cb&vxp=mtr
Ive done a water pump on my gs350, and that was easy. This shouldn't take much time to install yourself.

Yah, I seen those just not confident enough to remove the alternator considering it is well tucked in the drivers side engine compartment. But it actually looks straightforward as of what to do.
Just need some instruction.

Well, just ordered alternator off ebay. I hope it works.
Paid 199.99 for it instead of the 656.00 for oem.

It's only a .8/hour job.... But requires AC evac per manual. You may be able to move compressor aside without discharging and disconnecting lines, though....

DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD)
REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
REMOVE V-BANK COVER
DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
REMOVE RADIATOR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY
REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT
REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY

Remove the bolt, pulley cover plate and idler pulley.
REMOVE COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY
Remove the compressor with pulley for 2WD or 4WD.
REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY

Detach the clamp, and remove the bolt from the generator.
Disconnect the generator connector.
Detach the rubber cap, and then remove the nut and battery cable.

Remove the nut, bolt and generator bracket.

Remove the 2 bolts and generator.

Install in reverse order.

I literally changed out my alternator about four days ago. With the $650 Lexus charged, thats insane. But I needed to get the car going and nobody sells them. It was pretty straightforward and I was able to remove the alternator without removing any other part. I did have to remove that clip that holds the radiator hose, that was it. Took me a total of 45 minutes to remove and install the new one. FYI I am no mechanic.

After reading that procedure shown above, I went out and looked at my wifes car. I didn't see where anything needed to be removed or drained to do the job.

Like I said, only thing that had to be removed was the radiator hose from the clip, them remove the plastic clip that held the radiator hose. Nothing else. Really easy job.

Yea, the service procedure is a bit exaggerated.

I have a backup alternator sitting in the garage I got from a local wrecker from an IS250 that had 9K on it... I paid a hundred bucks.
