New key, remote start not working
I lost my keys last night and had a new one cut and programmed. The key works fine to start the car manually, but the factory remote start doesn't work now. When I push the lock button 3 times to activate it, it just turns over for a couple seconds, stops, tries again, and repeats. When I put the key in during this cycle it will start right up.
Was there something else that needed to be reprogrammed to get this to work?
Sorry, forgot to add, this is a 2008 RX350.
Thanks!

I don't know how exactly the factory remote start works, but I know for aftermaket remote start systems you need a module to emulate the key so the engine immobilizer doesn't kill it. The emulator module is what I would suspect on an aftermaket setup, but again, I don't have a clue how the oem remote start is setup.

2008 RX's did not offer an OEM remote start. neelnaik seems to be on to it, check under the hood and/or documentation for a brand or model and hope they are still in business. You didn't mention it but do all the regular functions: power hatch, one door/all door, panic work?

Sounds like the technician may have inadvertently erased or overwritten the remote starter key code in the ECU when he or she added the transponder code for the replacement key.
I suspect the hard part is to determine what the remote starter's transponder code was so they can add it again. I have heard some aftermarket remote starter installers take the crude route of simply taping or zip-tying one of the vehicle spare keys inside the steering column to get past the immobilizer hurdle.
