Uncut Ignition Key / Keyless Entry from ebay - What does it cost to have them cut?
I have been looking at buying in ebay an uncut Ignition Key / Keyless Entry. They run $30-50.
What does it cost to have them cut?
Can I program it?
I asked the local Lexus dealer and they said $200. Surely that's a whole key replacement. When I asked if I could bring in a blank, they said they don't cut them for other people any more (it was tearing up their machine).
Any Advice?

I think I had mine done for 40 or 50 at a legit safe and lock company here. Not some shack with a van and a number. This was a big store with safes and such for sale and a full time legit lock smith on duty.

Call a few locksmiths in your area and ask if they cut "sidewinder" keys. If they do, ask them how much!
Alternatively, you can try another Lexus dealer. They usually cut them for $25, but some of them won't for the reason you mentioned.
I think even Sewell cuts keys if you mail it to them.

Great feedback, thanks!
What about programing the three button electric module? Can I do this or do I need their help too?
Is the key a transponder?

You can't program it yourself.they have a computer that does it. My local dealership charges $50 to cut the key and $70 to program it. Since it's not a Lexus brand key, they won't guarantee that it will work

There is an eBay seller that sells you the key you then have the option of:
1) Send him a picture of the key you are replacing he will cut based on the picture.
2) Send him the key being replaced or your spare key.
He cuts the key for free and all you do is swap your chip into the newly cut key which by the way is a solid key compared to the junk from Lexus which the case tend to snap on you.
Known issue for years up to 2008?
Anyways that is another option.
