Default pitting and peeling wheels

Hi all, I have a 2009 RX350 that has factory lexus chrome wheels. I have noticed over time they have started to show pitting and also some peeling of the chrome. Both my cars have chrome wheels and I take good care of them.

Anybody think it is worth it to call lexus direct about the issue?

I don't think that a 2009 Lexus should have wheels that are pitting and peeling like this. Anybody else with the issue?

Thanks!

I have this issue on my 04 with non chrome wheels. I did notice some of it when I was purchasing it but decided I would probably just get some new wheels for it. If I had an 09 that I purchased new though, I would definitely be contacting Lexus.

Lexus probably won't be much help. All RX chrome wheels were done locally. Dealers had them done to demand.

Chrome wheels do have a somewhat short life span in my experience. The main thing that I would recommend to save yourself some headache is run Nitrogen instead of air. Nitrogen does not contain moisture as air does and moisture will cause the chrome to peel at the seam of the tire so you get a slow leak. I have dealt with this and am aware of others also.

I see what you guys are saying. I am just frustrated with the car. I take very good care of my cars and they are really not used that much. I live within 10 miles of my work. These three things have gone wrong so far and now the wheels have kind of put me over the edge. I think I am going to call lexus to see if they can help me out with something. I thought I would have a pretty problem free car for a 2009 RX when it is only the beginning of 2014.

-reverse camera doesn't work (put it in reverse one day and it was a black screen, Been that way ever since)
-Steering wheel makes a squeak/whine when turning either direction
-passenger door lock actuator no longer works and drivers door lock actuator is intermittent

Chrome is never a OEM thing. As mentioned above, the dealer sends it out to whomever and they plate the painted wheels they were sent [well, strip, and then the chroming process].

Call the dealer, have them contact their chrome guys - the wheels thing may be out of Lexus North America's hands

Reverse camera, could be a simple connection. The Acura MDX from 04-08 had this issue, and it was common, 'rare' to find a working one. Basically on those the wire would get caught up in the opening/closing motion of trunk, to the point it would wiggle loose. Pulling back the trims may help you out.

-Steering wheel, needs some lithium grease, or the likes on the steering shaft. where it enters the engine bay.

-Actuators, I would've had them fix that, no reason for those to go out. On a 1999 Lexus GS, sure! Not an '09

Good luck!
