Generation for RX-3??
What year do you consider
to have the least problems?

3rd Generation. It is newer.

I'm more and more inclined towards simpler cars - minimum electronics, software, firmware, etc.

I'd go back to a looking for a nice car circa 2000 if I can do it again. Mechanicals are easier/cheaper to replace and fix. I'd rather spend, say 3K rebuilding a transmission than spending 500 bucks to replace a fancy side mirror that goes up and down.

Probably the only electronics I would keep would be those related to airbags and ABS and the comfort of heated seats. I can sacrifice pretty much everything else.
