Looking for new tires for my 2008 RX400H. I was going to buy them either at Costco or tirerack within the next month but I also received a email from my local dealership for $10 over cost. Has anyone used the dealership promo of $10 over cost? Thoughts?

 

You need to get to the drive out price ,,, tires, stems, balance, hazard-warranty (optional but at many shops is included). Selection of tires is another issue. When in comes to tires, battery and bulbs the dealership gives you no advantage. You can enjoy the snacks, look at the next possible purchase and maybe loaners, but they are not providing anything additional. The OEM tires are reasonable, but aftermarket has lot more options.

I bought tires at Discount Tire last week, I paid $520 and then there is a $100 rebate, so the tires will end up costing me $420. Installation will be free for me as I'm having my uncle install them at his shop, but generally shops charge up to $80 for installation.

I went with the General Grabber's HTS, they are a great value for the money. Originally I was going to go with the
Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring. But, the deal I got on the General's was too good to pass up. And, I am not a big fan of Goodyears as I've had multiple bad experiences with their tires and their retail stores. Although the Assurance tires do have good ratings, I wasn't ready to take the risk.

I'll write up a review or give an update about the General Grabber HTS tires that I purchased once I install them. They are currently in my garage, but I'm not going to install them until the flakes start to fall (so probably November/December), as my current tires still have about 4/32 of tread left, which is the minimum amount they recommend for driving in the rain, (2/32 of tread is the legal limit).

BTW: You might get better responses if you posted in the Second Generation section, as they are probably more familiar with what tires work best on the RX400h. Maybe one of the mods can move the thread?

 

You must have selected an odd tire size for your replacement. I have never seen those as a choice to replace stock sizes in either 17" or 18" for the RX. I have seen the General G-MAX AS-03, but not the General Grabber HTS.

 

I got them for my RX300, 225-70/16. This thread was accidentally posted over in the first gen side by the OP, but by the time I realized that the vehicle in question was a RX400h I had already posted my response. Sorry for the confusion.

 

Get drive out price which may include TPMS kit. Sometimes dealer price can be advantageous. When we replaced our 08 Highlander, the Toyota dealer was doing a Buy 3 Get 1 Free deal which turned out to be the cheapest. Had Discount Tire pricematch and I didn't have to deal with the dealer.

 

Checkout Sears deal right now for the Goodyear Comfortred Touring if you have Sears card and order online shipped to you. $40 online coupon, $160 visa rebate, and Buy 3 get 1 free. I would not install there as their prices are high. Installation should run about $100 from Discount Tire.
