Default 70K service - what to have done? (skipped 60K service)

Brake flush?
Oil change?
Air filter/cabin filter?

Anything else?

Thanks!

2008 RX 350. Was planning on an independent shop.

Welcome to Club Lexus.

FWD or AWD?

Much of what the dealership charges you for is just inspecting items. An independent shop is fine for your service needs as is a Toyota dealership if there is one in your area you are happy with.

Tire rotation.

Check brake pad thickness while the wheels are off. If you have not had your rear brake pads replaced up until now you may be getting close to needing them. This will let you know how much time you have left before service will be required.

Take a look at your Owner's Manual and you will find the Scheduled Maintenance Guide. Everything you need is in there for a checklist.

If you have AWD you will want to add a changing of the transfer case fluid as well.

I don't see transfer case fluid flush on the regular maintainance list for 60K.

It is listed under 30K. Right out of the Owner's Manual:

http://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/do...rx35008smg.pdf

Check out page 49.

It says to check normally for AWD and to replace if towing. At 60K it says the same thing.

As a general precaution, if the owner has not changed out the fluid by 60K it is a good idea to do. Especially true if you plan on holding on to your vehicle for any additional period of time. This is not lifetime stuff. Some who have drained and filled themselves have noticed this stuff is black and foul smelling by the time they got around to it.

My 08 AWD is approaching to 60K. I tends to do maintainence by myselves. If I would like to replace all fluid at 60K, in addition to the brake fluid, trans fluid and the transfer case fluid, is there also front/rear differential fluid? How about power-steering fluid and the coolant? Sorry for so many questions, but I wouldlike to keep it running for 200K. Any information about how those can be done is also appreciated!

No problem with asking questions. Is what this site is all about. A good reference of what and how much regarding fluids can be found on the Amsoil site. You do not need to purchase from them but it is a good source and they have decent products.

As with many topics, these fluid services have been discussed many times before. You need only search for them. Some have pictures on the process, others may have videos.

For example, the power steering fluid on your RX is actually just ATF. Yes, that is correct. See the chart. So, a bottle of Mobil 1 ATF might be a good choice. I use a 2L soda bottle and a pump sprayer such as what you might find in a bottle of Windex. Use the pump to spray the contents out of the reservoir into the bottle. Takes all but a few minutes. Do that a few times over a few months and you will have removed much of the old fluid.

Also, be sure to read your Owner's Manual and be comfortable with what it says about the appropriate fluids and intervals.
