The Newest 2004 RX Thread
to CK1_RX3.
I own both an RX300 and an X5 (my partner and I). I drive the RX for the most part. Two totally different SUV's. My RX for exceeds the ride on the X5 which is rather "jerky". The X5 is roomier in the front, with the seat all the way back I can stretch out my legs ( I am 6'2"). The X5 is taller. Both are fine vehicles in their own ways. The X5 is far form "ugly". Quality wise the RX wins hands down. We have been very lucky with our X5. It has not been plagued with any of the quality problems the X5's are known for.
Don't be so narrow minded just because you own an RX. Of all the cars/SUV's I have owned (mostly GM's cause I work for them), the RX300 is the very best car (quality) I have ever owned. At the GM plant where I work, I think I have the only Lexus. I usually park next to an ML300. I guess were are the two oddballs.

billybob:
Gee-zuss! You work at GM and drive a Lexus to work?
Don't you get keyed, egged, lynched for something like that?
Like that salsa commercial: New York City?!
I like the idea of a Lexus X5. X5 looks with Lexus build quality and design. It wouldn't be surprising since Toyota/Lexus often uses an existing market leader as a reference when designing a vehicle. I believe the reference vehicle for the 1st gen RX was the Jeep Grand Cherokee. You'll notice the RX has similar dimensions and design cues to the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The X5 just may be the reference vehicle for the 2nd gen RX. The Highlander, which uses the same platform as the 2nd gen RX, has dimensions similar to the X5. Well maybe it will be an evolution of the existing RX with some X5 DNA. Who knows.
You know, I actually found the X5 to be cramped in the front. The RX seemed much more spacious. One reason the X5 seemed more cramped was the full center console in between the front seats. Because of the center console, the driver footwell seemed more constricted in the X5. I couldn't comfortably splay out my legs in the X5. Also, the X5 is bigger than the 1st gen RX yet the useable interior space is less than the RX. I thought that was atrocious! I mean, ok so you drive a SUV. It should have reasonable cargo space available!
Edited to attempt to stick to topic...

hey billyboy,
Why don't you refrain from calling someone narrow-minded until you know the whole story. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions.
I have test driven all of the following:
X5
ML320
Acura MDX
Ford Expedition & Explorer
GM TrailBlazer and Blazer and Tahoe
Cadillac Escalade
Dodge Durango
Jeep Grand Cherokee
After my tests drive, I have come to a very simple AND definitive personal conclusion that the RX is far and away my favorite SUV. I AM NOT narrow-minded by any stretch of the imagination - am I a biased RX lover? Yes, and for good reason. Am I entitled to my own personal opinions and the free expression of them here? Absolutely.
We're talking about a FRIGGIN car here buddyboy, not racial/gender/ethnicity/sexual orientation tolerance. Even if I wasn't open-minded, this type of subject doesn't require it.
If you want to come in here an express your opinions about anything and everything, fine. Nobody here will give you a hard time about it. Maybe I took it all a little too personally, but before you come in here have cocked and aim your post directly at me, you might want to think before you speak... To ASSume has certainly made one out of you.
BTW I smoked another X5 at a light last night... So yeah, maybe it's a fine looking/driving vehicle for some, but I'm fine with the RX, thank you.
Oh yeah, and one other thing... Did you happen to notice YOU ARE IN THE CLUB LEXUS FORUM? What did you expect to find? It's like walking into an NRA convention and expecting all the attendees to be pro-gun control. Check yer head.

I'm sticking with whitels on this one. He's seen the 2004 RX.
If DoubleWhoosh has the wherewithal, we may get lucky and see a new pic of this vehicle.
Now y'all quit that jibber jabber.

deleted my own text here - wasn't necesssary... thanks...
On a better note, there sure are mixed opinions about the new RX. At any rate, I'm sure it will be a fine, top-quality, NO, make that LEXUS-quality
vehicle. Nothing is perfect, but Lexus is as close as you get (and they pursue it relentlessly too!)

It sounds as if the X5 WAS the reference SUV for the new RX330.
From: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=63555
a sneak peek of the RX at some Lexus meeting.

The overall look, you can tell it's an RX. Once again, it will be an RX330. It will Outperform the BMW X5 3.0 in Handling, Braking, Acceleration and Fuel Mileage, so they say.

Someone already bought a magazine which has the same image.
