Why bother? Different strokes for different folks my man. That's why! In offering a ride adjustment feature, you give the car a better chance of being more "all things to all people." Know what I mean?
For example, let's say you share driving duties on your ES300 with your wife... You like a stiff, more sports car-like ride, and she likes to feel like she's sitting on a stack of pillows - well, with the tunable suspension, suddenly both parties are happy. Not to mention you can alter it just based on the mood you're in for the day. Wanna rock and roll? SIMPLE - just crank er to sport suspension. On a long Sunday drive? Hey, the LEXury ride may be just the ticket! And hey, for me a Sunday drive is anything but just casual cruising - it's an all out war against the pavement so of course I'm gonna go w/ sport handling!
Catch my drift?

Isn`t there any further info about the new RX ? Did anyone of you ask your dealer about the new styling ? I would really like to hear something new. I read the info at edmunds.com but I think that any dealer could tell you more than that. German dealers say that they currently don`t have any info about a new RX. That`s o.k because the new RX is more than a year away from now. But you - in the U.S - should be able to get some more info. Please, try it !

Only people that personally know the General Manager can really find out info.. The Average Buyer wont be given any info or else they wont sell there old models.. And they tend to keep it a secret and a surprise..

Interesting, but I'd take the info with a little bit of skepticism.

One point is that it would seem a bad marketing idea to make
a third seat available on the 2004 RX330. It'd be better to
upsell the buyer to the GX470 in order to get a third seat.
(Which is of course more expensive) That and a third seat in
an RX would be kind of cramped and take up valuable
cargo space assuming that the RX will be shorter in length
than the GX (188").

I also don't think Lexus is going to drop the numbers as the
article implies. Maybe their idea is to refer to the SERIES of car
as an RX, LS or GS etc. Not necessarily the particular model.
This is like how BMW has the 3 series but has different models
under that series. There's a lot of marketing hubris that surrounds
those numbers. Like 330 is more than 300 so it must be better.

A November 2003 release sounds reasonable. The RXs are
going to be built in a new facility in Canada and there may be
teething problems. Still, I am absolutely hoping that it will be
a Spring or Summer release!

I guess we'll all find out in next year...
I want a silver one!
Wherever you got this picture, I have to say that this is the closest thing to what I have seen in person if you guys remember my post back when. This is it folks, the 2004 model right before your eyes. But, trust me, it's much nicer in person

whitels:

The RX photo you referred to is my photoshop of the Toyota Harrier photo that was floating around. I put in a window over the previously rear lights, added a Lexus grille, put in a CA licence plate, removed the Japanese mirrors and adjusted the color towards my preference. Oh, and I used your sketch as reference for the window.

So you think it looks close to what you saw? Excellent!
I really hope it's close to what the real thing is going to be!

I still think that resembles an X5.

I can see the slight resemblance if you look from that angle. As a total package though, you'd be surprised that it is a much sleeker form. The RX330 would actually make the X5 "boxy". I did mention before that the RX330 was placed next to the X5 and so I had the benefit of looking at both SUVs from every angle at the same time.

I think the X5 does a perfectly fine job of making itself look boxy just by standing on it's own - it doesn't take sitting it next to an RX to accomplish that. I still think that based on all pics I have seen the next gen RX looks more boxy than the first gen, but I WILL reserve final judgement until I see one in person.

On a side note, parked next to an X5 last night at the dentist (I think it's actually my Dentist's X5, but I forgot to ask - go figure? We always just talk about tennis and hunting, never cars...)... My RX makes the X5 look like something fashioned from the 80's - boxy and ugly. My only liking for the X5 is performance related and from a headlight standpoint - the thing just looks like a hog.

Honestly, I doubt it. They didn't say anything about it though. The LX470 has it because it is a relatively tall SUV. The GX470 will have an air suspension for the rear only, my guess for load leveling and/or to keep the car flat when you fill it up with stuff/people, and towing.

The RX300 is low enough that a height adjustable suspension would not be needed for ingress/egress, IMHO.

Eddie,
I must have been unclear in my typing... sorry... I was actually referring to/inquiring about adjustable ride stiffness (i.e. ranging from Luxury to Sport), not ride height...
I totally agree that ride height would be worthless on an RX, as it's already the easiest vehicle to get into/out of that I've ever owned, but an adjustable suspension stiffness, now THAT'd be a great feature to have! Any luck on that one?
THANKS!
