Default Leaking Coolant

after about a month of being parked i drove my rx about half a mile and noticed the temperature gauge was reading hot! i parked it and noticed the next day that it was leaking coolant from what seemed to be where the thermostat was replaced about a year ago. also the heat went out while i was driving it. could this be a thermostat housing or is it a loose hose? its too late to work on it now but i'd like to pull it apart tomorrow can someone give me some direction on where to go.

You are on the right track ,,, figure out what is leaking, hose, hose-clamp, thermostat housing or gasket.

What you experienced is exactly what can be expected as you loose coolant, vehicle gets hotter (you can even get to point where the temp gauge stops responding as the sensor is no lover in the coolant), loss of heat and puddle on the ground.

Remember to use Toyota Red coolant.

Welcome to Club Lexus.

There is at least one thread, perhaps more, which discusses the problem of air in the cooling system when you try to refill the radiator. Here is one:

You may want to use the search feature of the forums to look for more information on the cooling system of the RX.
