Question Help! Lost Keys

Due to the fragile and poorly designed master key for our Lexus 400h, we kept the valet key on the same chain & used it for the ignition. Yesterday, the keys fell in toilet. Car is now locked & armed in a carport.
If I could get in, without setting off the alarm, the coded key is in the glove box.
The local locksmith is scared.
Now I am too.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to Club Lexus.

Monday morning go to your Lexus dealer, if possible, or give them a call. Take your ID and your insurance card or something that has your VIN number on it as a way to indicate you own the vehicle in question. They can make a new key or keys for you. Sounds like you are going to need one anyway.

On your lost key. Do you still have the small metal key that is included in the owners manual?

On getting new keys made. The cost depends on what type of key you need. I bought one more valet key for my daughter. And it cost 100 dollars. My dealer programmed it for free. Which I think is normally around 40 dollars.

Perform a search of this forum. Plenty of discussions on buying and cutting keys.

I recommended the OP go to the dealer as it seemed they needed a key immediately, however, if you have some time there seem to be better options.

Since my nephew works at a Toyota dealership which is also a Lexus authorized service place. Last Monday, I took the key from the instruction manual with all the forms of ownership and id to that dealership. According to the service manager, the new key usually arrives within 4 working days.
We are located on California's Central Coast. The closest dealerships are Monterey (approx 120 miles), Oxnard, CA (approx 172 miles). As of Friday, our new key was at the Lexus dealership in Bakersfield, CA (approx 107 miles). On Monday, it arrived at the dealership which sent it, and even though we had pre-paid the $50 reprogram charge, service had no time to do it.

The new program key cost $485 + the reprogram charge.
We are waiting for an "available" time for the reprogramming.

The moral of this story, is don't loose the program & valet key at the same time
and,
post in this forum with Lex questions. Even if no definite answer results from the post, there's lOTS of encouragement.

Thanks Everyone!

Since you are going to get them re-program I would get another master + valet key and have them do it at the same time....good luck.

I am glad this worked out for you, however you were overcharged for this. Most Lexus dealerships will charge $300 plus programming. I think what happen here is the Toyota dealership verified the VIN and ownership then contracted with Lexus for the Key. Lexus charged Toyota the full price and Toyota in turn added their service fee as well.

He wasn’t overcharged. He paid extra.

He lost his keys. And because of his location. He had to work with two different dealerships to get his keys made. Plus he had to pay for shipping to him.

Labor and expenses aren’t discounted because of someone’s lack of foresight.

IE carry the only two keys you have for your car on the same key ring.

One other thought here is the "credit card key". I know this key can be used to start the car while holding the plastic case that it comes in close to the ignition. (the key holder case has a transponder). Could this all metal key with the key transponder case open a locked car as well?

Maybe you should have kept the coded key in the house?

"The moral of this story, is don't loose the program & valet key at the same time" ?

If the master key didn't "work", maybe you should have fixed it (thereby eliminating the possibility of losing the master & valet keys (because they're on the same keychain)?
