Hi all

THe darker coloured RX350s, like mine in graphite, really would look better with a splash of chrome around the windows (not pillars)

similar to this
http://www.carid.com/2007-lexus-rx-c...ge-172788.html

but without the chrome on any of the pillars, just around the windows.

Has anyone used this, or something similar?

Did it work out well? even in closeup?

thanks

S

Hi Satz. I posted the same question a few months ago and came up blank. There are plenty of kits which do the pillars as well, but they look a bit bogan to me.

I know the last of the 2nd gen RX350s came with the window trim here in Oz, so next time I'm at the dealer I'll see if they are available for retro-fitting.

HI poisson

I didn't realise the last of the 2nd gens came with that. I'll try to contact my dealer, too. Though I think in Perth (compared to little Canberra) you might have more luck!

Agree that the window pillars look bogan (now there's a Perth word!) I'm from there

It's the CUBs (cashed up bogans) that are driving the Australian economy. It's not to say I like their taste, though.

Can you please explain CUB's?

Like cashed up rednecks. In perth they're fueled by the resources boom.

I'm told the black window trim of our RXs is somewhat unique. A friend of mine who was working at the Indiana Subaru plant when our RXs were made once told me that they (and other manufacturers) put up quite an expense into trying to find out how Toyota/Lexus successfully painted the window trim. Seems that in the manufacturing world, a surface like that is very dificult to apply paint evenly. Other manufacturers use a black tape to give the appearance of paint but few have mastered the technique in production. Just a unique and interesting tidbit about our RXs.

I feel somewhat ungrateful wanting to change mine to chrome.

However as Lexus went to so much expense to paint them nicely, it's a shame they didn't invest a bit more to make sure they stay on the vehicle!

hi all
looked closely at the stock black trim, which does look nice btw (a sort of black chrome really), I realised sticking on shiny chrome trim wouldn't work at the tops of the centre pillars. These pillar trims actually go over the upper edge . Guess that's why the kits come with all the pillar trim as well

maybe I'll just chrome the side bump strip. I need to add some slight 'lift' to the car's appearance from the side

Personally I do not think the aftermarket ones are very tasteful. Kind of cheesy. I think the only ones I would consider are the pillar covers made by Junction Produce.

I'm actually looking just to do the window surrounds, but not the pillars...

Although I did notice that the Porsche Cayenne appears to have chrome pillars and window surrounds on some models...

followed up with my Service and Parts manager. Looks like no 2nd gen RX350s came with chrome window trim. At least not from factory.

Now i'm thinking of going along the lines of a chrome strip on the side waistline rubber strip. That would add some 'bling' without being over the top.

Anyone recommend a good supplier for that?

thank you
