Default RX330 fuel filter change.

The mileage is close to 100k, is it necessary to replace the fuel filter?

how much is it for the fuel filter replace?

I forget what the book says, but I did mine at 135K and it wasn't too bad. It looked used of course, but hardly clogged up. I'd bet you could get upwards of 150K with little performance drop in the filter.

Fuel filter is about $50 or so for the RX330. I am not sure what the labor cost would be, but it requires removing the rear left passenger seat and accessing a small door to reach the fuel pump (at least with the RX300 and don't assume that's changed). I had planned to do this at some point in the near future with my RX300, but just don't have enough time with work to be able to handle it.

Generally, this is not something you need to do in the U.S. or Canada with the fuel quality. I had this done once at a Lexus dealer when I made a trip from Mexico City to San Antonio once and it was pretty nasty. From them on, I was using fuel system cleaners with impunity during my time living down there, but that's a different case with the fuel quality down there (though it did improve over the years I was there).

I have been told by my Lexus dealer that Lexus's do not have fuel filters. I have an 05 RX330 and i wanted to get mine done. Instead they have a process to clean out your fuel system that gives you better fuel performance and makes the engine run smoother. I purchased mine at 65,000 got the system done at 75,000 and noticed a big difference in how smooth the engine ran.

Kuangmao,

You have to pull the fuel pump in order to access the fuel filter. The job is moderately intensive and takes a few hours to complete. An OEM fuel filter for a RX330 runs anywhere from $20 at the dealership to $14 from sites like lexuspartsnow.com.

Riddle me this Batman, how well do you know your way around a wrench? The biggest PITA for this job involves removing the seats, carpet and a few other things but it's not excessively difficult. One thing worth mentioning is that a special tool, 09808-14020, is required to perform this job. Maintenance manuals, technicians and other sources will warn against using any other kind of tool for the job
