Default Airbox - captive nuts - where can I find?

I was replacing my air filter the other day and pressed a bit to hard on the 10mm bolt, forcing the captive nut on the other side to drop out of its pressing and to be lost forever. Has this happened to anybody before? Is there a captive nut I can replace this with?

Thanks in advance!

Same thing happened to me, but I was able to retrieve it with my long magnetic parts picker. Not a great design. I looked at a couple of the online parts catalogues, but it appears you cannot buy them without purchasing the entire airbox (ouch!).

Must agree it so tight in there and they should have just done a clip on type.

Really sucks. I dread changing my filter.

So when you do it, be slow and take time. And yes you will have to buy the box if you wanted to change it.

You can go to almost any hardware or autoparts house and get the nut you are looking for.

I think (don't qoute me) it is a 10 mm 1.0 pitch. Take the bolt and find a nut that matches it. Should be a simple find.

The socket for the bolt is 10mm, but the thread size is 5mm by either 0.8 or 0.9.

Actually, if you notice in the diagram you cannot order the ones they show.

Unfortunately junk yards try to price their product relative to list price. 50% of list price is still a big number.

I don't think the nut I'm looking for is marked in that diagram. Its basically the nut that the bolt labeled N1 in the top diagram, fits into. It fits into the front part of the lower airbox.

Thanks for the ideas/replies so far however

Default Lexus RX 330 Airbox

I'm a little late to the party, but for those who struggle finding captive bolts/screws for the Lexus air filter box (Airbox) there are (at least) a couple of ways to go. If you don't want to pay high dealer costs, eBay has the captive bolts for $11/each. Ouch!

However, if you have a great Ace Hardware store near you, like I do, Ace is the place. Found great help in the Ace aisles with a car-guy named JT. With JT's help, I just replaced the captive bolts with a metric M5 25mm stainless steel screw. Couple that with a neoprene-backed stainless washer and voila! Works like a charm to hold the airbox together.

Cost $1 for each screw and washer combo. I needed two, so it cost me just over $2.

Thanks for the earlier advice on the forum, but a special thanks to Ace Hardware for finding a great solution at a killer cost.
