Only use Toyota replacement parts on critical parts like these. It is not worth the savings.

And if you get them at our approved vendors like Sewell, you have a discount anyway. Pricing should be close to aftermarket. Does not make sense to use non-oem, JM2C.

I'm getting very close to this service interval as well. That being said, I do not take my vehicle to the dealership but I want to purchase all of the OEM parts. In a worse-case scenario what parts would you purchase for this service?

Check the Sewell site. They sell parts according to service (15K, 30K, etc), at least they do for the 3rd gen RXs.

I think many of the aftermarket parts are fine including what you will be doing. Just don't buy something cheap. Gates for instance makes excellent belts. How many miles on it? To be safe, replace the cam seal, water pump and gasket, tensioner, and idler. Rockauto.com is a great place to look.

as far as a list of parts (in addition to the timing belt and water pump) to replace while replacing a timing belt:

water pump gasket
timing belt automatic tension adjuster (hydraulic)
timing belt tensioner (roller/bearing with bracket)
timing belt idler pulley bearing
accessory drive belt
front cam and crank seals

check with your mechanic to be sure.

This guy was recommended by one of the gurus on the other (Lexus Owners Club) list. I have no personal experience with him.

He sells various kits depending on what you want to replace.

Aloha, Joe

I haven't replaced a timing belt myself, but check out these 2 links (it's for an RX300, but the procedure is probably similar):

Helps to have air tools, a garage hydraulic lift, and a lot of patience and time. I'm guessing the hardest part would be pulling the harmonic balancer off and making sure the timing belt markers are lined up in the right spots.
