Hello - I need to replace one of the tailights on my wife's '06 RX330. It's one of the inboard tailights that, along with a backup light, is contained in a module in the rear liftgate.

Can anyone describe how to remove the module for access to the lights? I see a screw/nut that apparently must be removed first, but after removing it, I couldn't tell whether module pulled straight out (or forward when the liftgate is closed), if it pulled to the side of the car, or if there's another fastener I missed. I don't want to pull the wrong way and break something......

If remember it's everything a very straight forward. I was removing for RTV sealing at the edge of it. So you have LED over there I guess, because I have just simple bulbs. I removed all right with the socket and bulb, but I remember I have to disconnected the only one connector, because is not enough space to remove it from socket. Then couple nuts for light assembly, I remember one nut is hidden very good, it's like inside at the edge of lift gate, if I'm right.

 

I'm giving this a 'bump' to see if someone can elaborate on how to access the tail lights in the rear liftgate......

You will need to remove the panel on the inner lift gate. Once removed, you should be able to identify which screws need to be removed before taking the light off. Be sure to shine a flashlight in there to see if there are push tabs that need to be squeezed together to release the taillight.

 

the rear tail/brake lights are led`s.

 

I think it's only led on the hybrid models.

 

well mine is an 05 non-hybrid model,and it`s led.

 

I've replaced my reverse bulb and it was not LED.

 

Yeah,but the break/tail lights are.

 

You use a flat-headed scew driver and go corner to corner and the interior at those plastic clips/fasterners between the inside of the lower trunk panel and pop them open one by one. then it will be removed along with your lower back panel(make sure all plastic clips are in place in those groove sockets the way they were after you pried them open) and reached in with your hand to change new light bulb. Once you're done replacing, put them back by sliding it up into the edge around the panel first and then pushed the clips with force with your palm.
You may need an extra person to hold the panel while you're assembled it back.

 

Tails are regular bulbs, brake lights are LED's.

 

Okay,I have to look at it again. But I`m almost positive it`s one led unit.

 

Been there done that. Took it (the brake light) apart. Check your bulb listing on the manual. It shows a bulb for park and nothing on the brake light.

The park light as well on the tailgate is regular bulb.

If somebody knows different, speak up..LOL!

Just replaced a busted tail light. There are ten clips along the upper access trim. I will upload a video somewhere so people can see where those clips are located.

Bulb replacement is a GE 168LL (for long life) from Canadian Tire. Same as side markers in the headlight section.

I used a trim removal tool like this one in Princess Auto:
