Default Rattling Noise??

on my 06 rx400h, recently I started to hear rattling/squeaky noise from the rear. sounds like some interior parts, thought it was stuff in the cargo area, so took everything out of the cargo area and noise still there. so decide to take the sliding cargo cover out and it's still there... hear it all the time when road gets alittle bumpy. anyone else with this issue? it's driving me crazy.... what could it be??

I had this asked the dealer about it they did a TSB on the hatch and they also placed some felt between the back seats. I never did figure out where but the squeaking was gone. I did not have a squeak issue if I had a passenger in the right rear seat. Try lowering one of the two seats and armrest separately to figure out where it is.

thanks herbvdh, do you happened to have tsb# for it? so it was the rear right seat area? if you can find a invoice for that work done by lexus and tell me what they did, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have someone else drive the car, crawl back there yourself, and you will find the source of the rattle. That's how I did it. In my case it was some relay above the back door, under the headliner.

Smile Rear rattle

Open the trunk/hatch. On the left & right interior framework there will be a small, spring-load latch. Push each latch toward the front of the vehicle (they will stay there). Should resolve the rattle. Worked for me!

If you do push in the tonneau cover latches and it resolves the issue, you have isolated the problem. That of course is not a suitable solution. There is a TSB on this it is called "NV5016 Tonneau Cover Latch Rattle". This involves replacing several panels and parts in the rear hatch door. This solved my rattle.

Unfortunately I do not have the TSB that was done but it was the door motor and something else but that did not fix it. They found it was the seats sqeaking that caused the problem intermittently.

Wedged a small piece of foam between the relay and the roof skin metal to stop vibration.

You need the latches in that position to use the tonneau cover. However, pushing in the latches to prevent the rattle is not something you should have to do. Lexus has a repair to fix this problem. Even though your Lexus may be out of factory warranty the dealer most likely would repair this at no charge, because it is a known problem. This is information from the Lexus Repair Order on my 2007 RX.

Complaint: "There is a rattle noise coming from rear hatch area, please check and advise".

CAUSE: Hatch Rattle - NV5016 Tonneau Cover Latch Rattle. 04-06RX330, 06RX400H&07RX

1 67754-48050-B0 Spacer, Back Door TR
1 67754-48060-B0 Spacer, Back Door TR
FC: 91 43
Part #67754-48050-B0

These replacement parts fixed the rattle for me.

I would start at the dealer. Take the information that I provided and ask nicely for a fix at no charge. Failing that, call customer care at Lexus.
