Default Appropriate Tire Recommendations

I need to replace the tires on my 2005 RX330 AWD, and would greatly appreciate any suggestions regarding an appropriate all season tire. I currently have 235/55R/18 Michelin HXMXM4 V rated Pilots. The tires have only 23,000 miles, but are worn to 4/32. There is still a little tread wear/mileage left on them, but my Lexus service technician identified a defect in one of the tires' steel belts which explains why my vehicle shakes and shimmies at speeds below 40 mph. I am waiting to hear from Michelin if they will issue a pro-rated warranty credit based on the defective tire, but should I take a chance with another Michelin product, or find a comparable alternative? Thanks for your suggestions.

We have the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza on our '04 RX330 and have been pleased. They are rated for 60K, however, on the last set, we only got 45K. With the Alenza, I at least had a tread wear warranty and got some $$$ toward the purchase of the replacements. With the Michelin, they were done about 35K and since there was no tread wear warranty, I was on my own.

Another vote for the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenzas. I have 25k on mine and the tread depth is at 10/32nds. So I used 2/32nds in 25k miles. They handle well in dry, wet and snow and are reasonably quiet. I'd buy them again.

Others to consider based on ratings at the Tire Rack: Continental ExtremeContact DWS, and the Yokohama Parada Spec-X.

Ditto on the Alenzas. While they didn't last as long as I expected (34k), they were solid in the snow. Plus they were cheaper than the OE tires. Try Tire Rack like Jim suggested and check out if there are any promotions going on for additional savings. On a side note, the dealer prices can be just as competitive as the chains. They were less than local tire guy I usually go to when I replaced the tires on my '04 last October. Happened to have coupons for free alignment and percentage off too. And that's on top of a Michelin promotion going on at the time for $70 off 4 tires. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any thoughts out there regarding Michelin MXV4S8 Energy or Yokohama Avid V4S for a 2005 Lexus RX330 AWD? Thanks.

Personally, My vote goes to the Michelin`s. (the ones it came with) they are a low rolling resistance tire. And more of a performance tire.Hence the low millage you get out of them.(thats the bad part of it)

you need to call Michelin and make them replace them for free or partial refund.
The 23,000 and 4/32, plus defect can be claim as warranty.

One more vote for the Alenzas. Very quiet, great handling and good in the snow here in Minnesota.

Yokohama makes a good tire too for a lot less than Michelin and the Bridgestone Alenza. Check out Tirerack.com and read the reviews

Living in sunny and rainy FL, I have found the Bridgestone Alenzas to be an excellent tire in the wet. When I researched I did not care about how the tire would do in the snow as I rarely go North once the weather turns. So far I have nearly 35K miles on them with 9 to 9.5/32 of tread left.

If you are interested in the Yokohama AVID V4S, I would also take a look at the Yokohama Parada Spec-X.

I just bought my second set of the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's. They worked well in the snow and lasted a long time. I'd also recommend them.

The Alenza is a good safe choice. Also, you can check on tirerack and research a little more on the additional choices - lots to choose from. Just don't get the OEM RS-A (terrible tires).

Consider the Yokohama Parada Spec X. I had them for almost a year now, the ride and handling is excellent.

My RX400h came with the Michelin MXV4 S8 (v rated) and they are a decent tire, except for wear (but that might depend on how you drive). I'm a Michelin fan, never really having had a bad experience with them. There are many low rolling resistance tires out there now, so you're not absolutely stuck using the Michelins.

Recently recommended to me by a tire store were the Yokohama Avid ENVigor tires, which are too new to have many reviews, but the few that are out there are very positive. Cheaper than the Michelins too.
