I just recently bought a 2007 lexus rx 350 and I was wondering, typically speaking, how the average rx 350 engine noise is suppose to sound like. My car has 70xxx km's on it and i purchased it at a dodge dealer. It was a trade in and was just recently traded-in 10 days ago and I bought it. There were no accidents ever and is certified. But with the hood up and closely listening to the engine..it doesn't sound like most luxury cars all nice and quiet and smooth. But rather sounds like a old 1990's car and I can clearly hear the pistons moving up and down...its not reallly that loud and I would rate it a 6/10. Is this a bad thing? Are the rx 350's suppose to sound like this? Or am I just being too paranoid. What should I do?
wake up people, the rx does not have a lexus only engine, it is massed produced, and shoved into whatever they see will work, IE, camry, highlander, ES, whatever else,
if this engine was unique to lexus, then yes, i could see your point, and would agree that it should be quieter, mine has some noise, its just too bad the power train warranty wont cover it.
I just got the car for a couple of weeks. I have no ideas if this is normal. However, RX350 is still quieter than my old Honda.
Yes me too, it is a lot quieter than most of my other cars, but the noise that it produces just doesn't seem to meet most other luxury car standards.. even my friends 2001 Honda Accord is more quieter..

My first generation RX300 was quieter than the second gen. RX350. But, I agree, the engine 'sounds' are not the ones that a well-balanced engine produces. Works, though.
I had noticed a bit of roughness in the engine tone with our RX330 as well. It seems to the that the same engine in Camry or ES330/350 applications sounds a bit quieter. It probably is Toyo...err Lexus' way of giving the vehicle some roughness to make it appear more as a truck-based SUV than a plain Camry
