Default Question

I am wondering how many miles can you put on these engines? I purchased my car with 98,000 miles on it. And right now it has about 109,000 miles on it. Now I say that I want to keep the car forever, but before I spend some money on upgrading her to my liking, I am wondering how reliable are these cars?

Mine is a 2004 Rx made in Japan with all the bells and whistles. I would greatly appreciate everyone's feedback.

If it has had scheduled oil changes, I would say you are fairly safe up at least to 200,000 miles.

What exactly are your expectations? Breakdown of lock_mechanism/sensor/alternator/starter/bushings/bearings/seals/AC/transmission-overhaul/engine-overhaul. The other area of failures are leaks and when a person feels the leaks have to be taken care off.

Since mostly the pinch one feels is through the pocket-book, alternative question might be a repair costing $1000 or more. That can be deceiving as a $30 main seal may require labor reaching your threshold of pain.

Sorry to muddy the water, but your question does not have an easy answer. If you take good care mostlikely it will remain good. You will have to assess the situation each time there is a repair to be done [Current Value vs (Repaired value + repair cost)]. Unfortunately it is so hard to predict when the next repair will come around.

My .02 engine will last, no question- but when will other components start milking you for $? Hold onto original parts in case something goes wrong so you can sell off your mods, return RX back to stock to sell quickly if needed.

I appreciate everyone's response. Well by modding I will be painting my thundercloud grille, my oem rims and the emblems blue pearl; plus my front bumper will be repainted because of rock chips. And I will change my burlwood to blackwood. Total cost is $900,

My interior is also faded and I am having a professional repaint, all my seats and vinyl plus the steering wheel for only $800. The interior when finished will look brand new. So basically the car will look brand new with my little unique accents for about $1700.

The only thing that I am still contemplating is upgrading to generation 5 navigation which costs $1500 dollars. I guess I can decide that in about a 1 or so, since it is already old technology and I won't ever recoup my money if I decide to sell the car.

For $1,500, I would condider getting a top of the line aftermarket Nav/Audio system that will do anything the factory system can do and then some, and do it all much better.

I paid $14,750, I got a good deal on it because the guy was leaving the country and he already did the 90,000 miles service.

true, but it doesn't look clean as the oem unit. But most likely I doubt I will do this. I never use Navigation anyways I just like having the screen there. I will probably upgrade to generation 4 and sell my generation 3 navigation, so I might brake even on this.

If you mean on the Navigation or the modding I haven't done either yet. Still contemplating on which route to go.
