Default New owner 330 foglight question

04 330. 41K miles. Everything but the foglights seem to work. I read the manual, but it just mentions twisting the stem to turn them on. I see the markings on the stem, but get no light.

Any ideas how to check if it's wiring, or bulbs, or fuse. Anyone know what fuse runs those, and if it also runs anything else?

Thanks

Try to turn them on with your parking lights or headlights on. I think one or both have to be on to get fog lights on.

As you said, could be a couple of things.

Blown Fuse Check your fuse, replace and check, manual will tell you location.

Used up Bulb If fuse ok, can be the bulb, sorry it is pita to replace them.

Faulty-cut Wiring, this will be hard to de-bug, you need to take it in. This is the most remote failure anyway. Gotta be the 2 above.

Finally, Headlamps must be on for the fogs to turn on. This is the typical logic. Some people do mods to allow fogs on with only park lights on.

Hey, that's a potential MOD that nobody's brought up. Any takers?

Paging Mowmow, you are the electrical GURU!!!

There's a separate on switch for the fog lights.

Can you turn on the fogs without the headlamp on?

Good question. I've always had the headlights on "Auto" setting.

The headlights must be on for the fogs to work (so they will work in AUTO, but only when the system automatically turns on the headlights). Also, the high beams must be off. The switch is on the turn signal stalk just to the right of the headlight switch. Twist it toward the front of the vehicle for ON.

That is the logic for the fogs. Generally true for all cars.

Also there is no fog light indicator light that will come on the dash. You will need a mirror or reflection to see if they come on in front of the vehicle, other wise you will just have to get out and look to see if they are on.

^^That's one indicator that could have been added.

True. A light in the dash would be nice. My wife's 2010 Equinox has a nice indicator in the dash when the fogs are on. Anyone know if the 2010 RX has it now?

Yes it does, looks just like the one on the 2nd gen.

2'nd generation does not have one. The indicator light bulb with the sun rays is for the headlights. There is not a fog light indicator on the 2'nd generation.

Cat, you're right about the headlight indicator. It looks like a lightbulb. Underneath should be another light with the slanted rays and a slash through them for the fog lights.
