08 - RX350 - Brake Pads replacement @ Toyota
Hi Guys,
I'm in need of a brake pads replacement (all 4) and I'm thinking of buying the pads from Lexus and bring my car to Toyota for installations. Lexus shop want 600+ for all 4 pads replacement. While Toyota only charges $120 for labor. Is it OK to let Toyota install the pads?
Did anyone else replace their pads at other shop beside Lexus?
Thanks in Advance.

definately okay to let toyota (or any other auto place) replace the pads. I would go even further as to say that you can get the pads from toyota, as the RX probably shares pads with the old highlander and maybe even the venza

I agree...when I am ready for pads, I will get a price from Toyota (including parts and labor) to do the job...

What if the local dealers owns both Lexus and Toyota?
Our LExus dealer here is the same owner as the Toyota dealership--in that case will they usually give the Toyota pricing?

Why don't you try installing them, it is not hard. Save $120. There's lots of write ups. I did one with pics, too.

donmatt's right. For the rears, rarely that rotors are changed. Pads yes, but it will take serious mileage to eat up the rear pads. Fronts, yes, depends on your driving habits.

When I replaced my front pads for my rx330 I called lexus dealer and asked for the pricing then the part number, then i called toyota and gave them the part number and they gave me a price. It was $20 dollar savings for me and i installed the pads myself.

If 37k miles, maybe it is about time. If 37k KM (which in Canada it is, 23K miles) it is way to short. Unless you are a very agressive driver.

Way Too Soon
Otherwise I think you are way too early for brakes. Do you ride the pedal?
By that I mean a 2 footed driver?

Wow, I agree, way too low of miles to be replacing front and rear pads, even if you are an aggressive hard city driver, I still can't see how the rears would be worn already. Have you had a qualified mechanic actually tell you front and rears are worn out?

if you do have the pads replaced might as well have the brake fluid flush too, since your car is likely crawling to a two-year old mark. plus the fact that your brakes are all but done at 37k km that makes even stronger case for replacing the brake fluid in your RX.

Well I don't remember exactly but on my 32k service, Lexus technician told me that I have 20% - 25% left on my front brake. They recommend that I have my brake service at the next appointment, which is only an oil change service so I took it to Toyota to save some cash. The oil change at Lexus charged me $145 vs Toyota $39 + tire rotation $19.99, much more cheaper than Lexus. I only go to Lexus to have major service such as warranty and full maintenance service.
