I have just easily installed a Lexus Hitch on my 2004 RX and plugged the wiring harness into the prewired connector under my rear compartment.
I am getting no lights on the trailer.

I did a search and saw where someone did a similar install and had no power. A poster mentioned a module to drive the connector?

Can anyone explain where and what the module is that drives the 4-pin trailer hitch plug?

 

I have come across this part number on another web site for an electrical converter needed when you have no tow package.
electrical converter is necessary - P/N 82670-48050.
Can't get a match on Google.

 

could you not just remove one of your taillights and splice into the wiring??

 

4 way flat molded connectors allow basic hookup for three lighting functions; right turn signal / stop light (green), left turn signal / stop light (yellow), taillight / license / side marker (brown) and a ground (white).

 

Could splice in and that is what I may be left with doing. have found that Lexus randomly left off the converter module (which does the same thing) on some RX's, even those with "TO" package.

Careful with this. A friend of mine had a hitch installed by U-Haul on his 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and they spliced instead of using the special box that you're supposed to. Wound up putting the truck into limp home mode (locked into 2nd gear/most idiot lights on) and cost $1800 to fix.

 

Does anyone know the voltage the RX uses for the lights and is it the same for a trailer?

 

Don`t you have to plug in a fuse or something in the fuse box? Thats how it was on the first generation RX.
