How long have you guy`s driven on the original Delphi factory battery?? I just picked up my 2005 RX 330 on Saturday,and it still has the original battery.Of course I put a 10 amp charge on it over night.2nd RX owner btw.

 

My 04 is still doing well. I had it tested 2 months ago and it passed. No hints of any issues so far. I think its time to start looking around though. I wouldn't want to be stranded for the small cost of a battery.

 

'05 (2nd owner) and I'm pretty sure my battery is the original. Still has the Lexus sticker on it but the year/mo. are not marked. According to the sticker it's an 84 month warranty battery....hmm...we'll see. I may buy a new one next year just for the "peace of mind".

 

Me too.But it charged up very nicely.(it wasnt dead or anything) I do believe this helps a car battery every once in a while,new or old.

A lot depends upon the environment of use and the actual use. Lexus will honor the warranty [not sure, but it is not prorated].

In extremes of central Texas, and typical [not short runs after start] use the original will last 4-5yrs. I did not go back to Lexus and opted to change to red optima on my own. {incidentally I just changed the red optima on GS after 7+ yrs**

I would advise against 10amp charge as regular thing. I prefer a trickle charger overnight once in 6 months ... specially for Optimas.

Yeah I think your right salim.I should have used the 2 amp setting for over night charge.

 

I have a few toys installed in the back - amps, crossover, subwoofers, clean sweep - neatly tucked under the cargo area. It shortened the battery life a bit But Lexus replaced it under warranty

 

^ can you confirm when they replaced the battery, did they prorate? I think Lexus does not prorate.

My guess is probably 4 years on the OEM battery based on what I've heard from others but luck plays a part too. My wife's old 94ES300 OEM battery lasted 9 years but my 2000 GS400 OEM battery lasted only 3.5 yrs. My 2008 RX OEM battery is still going super strong. My sis' 2004RX is still on her OEM battery but I think it's nearing the end since it's getting weak. I also think where you live makes a difference to battery life e.g. super hot weather in the summer or very cold winters usually don't fare too well with battery life. Just my guess. If you need a replacement battery, COSTCO has excellent price on them plus they are rated at the top by Consumer Reports. Good luck.

FYI, the window/sunroof auto close feature stopped working a week before the battery died. This is one way to tell it's time. After the battery is changed, both will have to be reprogrammed.

 

Just had mine replaced in our 09 RX350 with just over 11,000 miles last week...15 months old. Under warranty of course, no warning signs just quit holding a charge for more than a few hours. I chalk this up to a factory defect?

 

can you explain why a battery charger will do a better job than an alternator? assuming youve got a good alternator, why not let the system work the way its supposed to?

In engineering terms, we call it area under the curve, charge (based on voltage and current) in y axis and time in x axis. Overnight charge is typically 12+ hours. Alternator on the other hand has to deal with initial (after start) charge up and other electrical loads [less charging when lights and brakes are on]. The area under the curve for charge from alternator has more peaks and valleys. The other good thing about chargers is that charge is more controlled and the battery does not heat up [trickle charge is nicer to batteries as apposed to pumping large current].
